Hello there, to all of my wonderful family and friends!!! Greetings from Macon! I have now been here for 4 days and I am happy to report that it has been pretty great so far. I am currently staying in an adorable pool house that is PERFECT for me. I have met some wonderful people. And, so far, I have yet to harm anyone. Of course... I'm not working on the unit yet so that helps. (;
Monday and Tuesday were orientation days for me which consisted of sitting in a classroom from 8:00 - 5:00 hearing a TON of information about benefits, safety precautions, human resources, HIPPA, etc, etc. One key fact I was sure to memorize was my first pay day. Obviously, that was very important.
Today I learned how to use the computerized documentation system for charting and such and tomorrow I will be learning how to use Coliseum's medication record system. I have yet to set foot on the unit since I got here, but that's fine, because I'm sure the moment I do is when I will fall prey to that feeling of anxiety and nerves that has been hiding underneath all of my excitement.
My fellow colleagues are nothing short of awesome. Six of us will be in the ICU together and we are all getting along very well. It's so great to be going into a scary but exciting new job with a group of people you know are going to support you and help you out (and vice versa, of course)! I couldn't have asked for a better group.
I went to church tonight at Thomaston Road Church of Christ where I met some wonderful folks. While it made me miss Sylvan Hills tremendously, it was heart-warming to be welcomed so easily to a new place. One lady even gave me her number in case I needed anything. So sweet! It was the kind of welcome I know visitors get at Sylvan Hills and it made me so proud to know that I come from an excellent home congregation.
I am currently sitting in Starbucks (because, of course, that was one of the first places I had to find) because I do not have internet. It's actually pretty refreshing when you can't waste away hours online. Besides... having no internet is an excellent excuse to go to Starbucks.
Overall, Macon has been quite pleasant. I have yet to meet one unfriendly person. Everyone has been helpful and considerate and I thank God so much that I have come to a town that has made it a little easier to be so far away from home. I miss everyone, for sure, but I'm doing quite well.... So far.
I love you all so much!! Until next time...

Wendy, remember that we are not too far away if you need us! So glad it's going well.
